About Our Worship
When you visit the Mt. Zion Church of Christ you will be greeted by a warm and friendly group of Christians. We want people to feel welcome and gain from their visit with us. We will try to treat you in such a way that you will want to visit us again when you have opportunity.
Our Bible study begins at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. We divide into age groups for Bible study. We will have as many classes as we have different age groups. Bible study together is very important to us and we encourage every one to be here for this period before our worship service.
Our Sunday morning worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. We meet again on Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. for another period of worship to God. We meet again on Wednesday for a period of mid-week Bible study.
We recognize the fact that the Bible is the only standard of authority in religious matters. It is our goal to worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). We want to do things God says do, in the way God tells us to do them, and for the reasons God says do them. On Sunday morning and evening during our worship service we will engage in the five acts of worship which are authorized by the scriptures. These are praying, singing, teaching, partaking of the Lord’s supper, and giving of our means. We partake of the Lord’s supper every Lord’s day because that is the account of action we find practiced by the New Testament Christians. Our singing will be acappella (without mechanical instruments of music) because singing is the only kind of music for which we have Bible authority.
God has laws concerning salvation. God has laws concerning worship. God also has laws concerning fellowship and discipline. We are not at liberty to dismiss any of these. Our effort is to consistently obey God in all of these areas.
Because of respect for God’s word and the authority contained therein you will find that we only use the most reliable translation of God’s word in the pulpit and in the classroom. These are the King James Version and the American Standard translation of 1901.
From the pulpit here you will find delivered strong Bible centered lessons designed to convince men/women of their sins as well as to build us up in the faith. We are not concerned with a social gospel designed to make folks feel good and overlook sin in their lives.
The most important thing a person can be in this life is a Christian.
Becoming a New Testament Christian involves the process of hearing the gospel of Christ, believing it, repenting of past sins, being willingly to publicly confess that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God, and then be willing to submit to baptism in water for the remission of sins. Then the Lord will add you to His church where you can begin your journey to heaven. Then we must live faithful to God’s word and live our lives in such a way as to bring glory and honor to Him. These are the things we emphasize here at the Mt. Zion Church of Christ.
We hope that when you are in this area that you will come and visit with us here. We certainly would like to meet you and we wish you well as you study God’s word and strive to live by it.
